{"id":298,"date":"2006-08-10T14:50:28","date_gmt":"2006-08-10T14:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp_genova\/?p=298"},"modified":"2006-08-10T14:50:28","modified_gmt":"2006-08-10T14:50:28","slug":"bc_day_barbecue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.dongenova.com\/site\/bc_day_barbecue\/","title":{"rendered":"BC Day Barbecue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"\/images\/various\/img_2173.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Img_2173\" height=\"150\" alt=\"Img_2173\" src=\"\/images\/various-small\/img_2173.jpg\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px\" \/><\/a> On the BC Day long weekend I let someone else do the work.&nbsp; Bill Jones of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magnorth.bc.ca\/\">Deerholme Farm<\/a> held his annual barbecue, which I had missed for the past three years because I was always out of town.&nbsp; This year, though, I was rarin&#8217; to go and a fine time was had by all, as we devoured a delicious whole lamb that Bill roasted over a charcoal fire.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"\/images\/various\/img_2181.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Img_2181\" height=\"266\" alt=\"Img_2181\" src=\"\/images\/various-small\/img_2181.jpg\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px\" \/><\/a> He stuffed it with fresh rosemary and coated the inside with a porcini mushroom spread, then did the final carving with a unique knife that has only one side to the blade that a friend brought to him from Japan.&nbsp; It felt very good in my hand, and Bill used it to slice through the roasted lamb like it was butter. The lamb was juicy and tender; it spent about 6 hours over the fire.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"\/images\/various\/img_2175.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Img_2175\" height=\"150\" alt=\"Img_2175\" src=\"\/images\/various-small\/img_2175.jpg\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px\" \/><\/a> Over at the propane barbecue, James Barber, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.james-barber.com\/index.asp\">The Urban Peasant<\/a> was holding court with a big bag of bread dough, a rolling pin and some help to put a pile of naan-like loaves directly on the grill.&nbsp; Brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with salt, they were a fresh and tasty accompaniment to all the side dishes folks brought along.&nbsp; I brought my famous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacificpalate.com\/r_2005_2.html\">Far East, Far Out Asian Coleslaw<\/a>&#8230;which still seems to get better every time I make it. <\/p>\n<p>After I had seconds, okay thirds, it was time for dessert.&nbsp; My favourite was a blueberry-strawberry-blackberry-rhubarb crumble that could have fed an army.
