{"id":363,"date":"2006-03-07T20:03:52","date_gmt":"2006-03-07T20:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp_genova\/?p=363"},"modified":"2006-03-07T20:03:52","modified_gmt":"2006-03-07T20:03:52","slug":"food_for_though_1-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dongenova.com\/site\/food_for_though_1-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Food For Thought &#8211; New Appliances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week I spoke with eager salespeople at the <strong>Spring Home and Garden Show in Vancouver.&nbsp; <\/strong>They were all there to show off the latest and greatest in kitchen appliances, cabinets, countertops, flooring, and almost anything else to do with your kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"\/images\/various\/img_1391.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Img_1391\" height=\"150\" alt=\"Img_1391\" src=\"\/images\/various-small\/img_1391.JPG\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px\" \/><\/a> In a first, Sharp has developed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharpusa.com\/products\/FunctionLanding\/0,1050,49,00.html\">a microwave oven in a drawer.<\/a>&nbsp; This oven can be placed under your countertop, and opens and closes with the push of a button.&nbsp; Cool.&nbsp; Costs about $900.&nbsp; Also hot right now are fridges that come in drawers you put under the counter.&nbsp; A pair will cost you about $4000 dollars.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"\/images\/various\/img_1389.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Img_1389\" height=\"150\" alt=\"Img_1389\" src=\"\/images\/various-small\/img_1389.JPG\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px\" \/><\/a> If you have $3500 to drop, and a spot under your cupboards, how about this <a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.dacor.com\/products\/producttype_index.asp?ptype=DKEC\">stainless steel entertainment unit<\/a> from Dacor?&nbsp; This has everything: Internet ready, cable-ready, plays DVDs, CDs, FM Radio, can even receive a signal from a camera at your front door so you can see who&#8217;s ringing the bell.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"\/images\/various\/img_1387.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Img_1387\" height=\"150\" alt=\"Img_1387\" src=\"\/images\/various-small\/img_1387.JPG\" width=\"200\" border=\"0\" style=\"FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 5px 5px 0px\" \/><\/a> Andrew MacDonald of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saeco.com\/\">Saeco<\/a> showed me his new &#8216;Easy&#8217; espresso machine.&nbsp; $850, but it does everything from grinding the beans to brewing the coffee to kicking out the spent grounds.&nbsp; I have a slightly less fancy model at home, and I absolutely love it.&nbsp; Yes, it cost a lot of money, but think of all the money you save every morning by just pushing one button to make your espresso and steaming your own milk.<\/p>\n<p>In this item I also spoke with Daniela Hammond of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valleycountertops.com\/\">Valley Countertops<\/a> in Abbotsford, BC.&nbsp; We talked about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silestoneusa.com\/\">Silestone<\/a>, a quartz-based countertop material that can take almost anything you can throw at it.&nbsp; But you know what?&nbsp; If you can&#8217;t afford a new countertop, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecounterguy.ca\/\">The Counter Guy<\/a> resurfacing specialists.&nbsp; They can make your old countertops look like new again by applying an acrylic coating.&nbsp; And if you think that this whole idea of spending thousands and thousands of dollars on fancy kitchen gear is a crock, I highly recommend an article in this winter&#8217;s on-line edition of The New Atlantis.
