{"id":89,"date":"2009-12-02T14:58:56","date_gmt":"2009-12-02T14:58:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp_genova\/?p=89"},"modified":"2009-12-02T14:58:56","modified_gmt":"2009-12-02T14:58:56","slug":"island-artisans-teapots-from-the-art-farm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dongenova.com\/site\/island-artisans-teapots-from-the-art-farm\/","title":{"rendered":"Island Artisans &#8211; Teapots from the Art Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/images\/old\/6a00d8341f728c53ef0120a7004c04970b-800wi.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\" style=\"float: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_8152\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341f728c53ef0120a7004c04970b \" src=\"\/images\/old\/6a00d8341f728c53ef0120a7004c04970b-250wi.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px; width: 240px;\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourartfarm.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018a r t f a r m\u2019<\/a> is the dream of Margit Nelleman and Victor Vesely, a couple who moved from Vancouver to North Cowichan to live their dream of combining a farm with a gallery and teashop.&#0160; <\/p>\n<p>Victor was a communications staffer for the David Suzuki Foundation, Margit, a potter and educator who grew up on a farm in Denmark.&#0160; Now she\u2019s back on a farm, creating teapots that quickly reminded me of the artistic style in the animated portion of the old Beatles movie, \u2018Yellow Submarine\u2019.&#0160; <\/p>\n<p>Elongated pour spouts, bulbous belly-like pots, whimsical tops, elaborate designs painstakingly etched by hand into the teapots.&#0160; The whole process of making her teapots is labour-intensive, as she doesn\u2019t use a traditional potter\u2019s wheel, everything is built by hand using coils of clay piled one upon another.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/images\/old\/6a00d8341f728c53ef0120a7006047970b-800wi.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\" style=\"float: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_8149\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341f728c53ef0120a7006047970b \" src=\"\/images\/old\/6a00d8341f728c53ef0120a7006047970b-250wi.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px; width: 240px;\" \/><\/a> One of my favourite creations in the shop is a teapot called \u2018High Tea\u2019.&#0160; The pot is about two and a half feet tall, enough to satisfy any Mad Hatter tea party.&#0160; (High Tea is the pot she is posing with in the photo)&#0160; <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of my pots are fully functional,\u201d says Margit, no matter how big or small, although some people may use them just for special occasions or ceremonial purposes.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend, (Dec. 5th and 6th 2009) there is an open house at the farm.
