Food- not just to fill the belly. I’m one of those peopl who go far and wide for the finer things in life. Firstly, fresh milk from a farm in Langley with the cream on top from which I make butter. There is nothing like fresh butter on toast such as Fig & Anais bread from Terra breads on 4th ave or Savory Island’s Soda bread from West Van. My children’s favorite bagel’s are from Mt Royal Bagels in North Vancouver at the bottom of Grand Boulevard. And to accompany this lot, Seville Marmalade (the important ingredient being Seville Oranges). Of course one must have a good cappucino from Cafe Artegiano made from the word’s best Barrista (World Champion Barrista no less!), Sammy.
My staples for the pantry such as organic oils and cheeses I buy in bulk from Horizon or on Commercial Drive from Santa Barbara or from Bosa on Victoria – who have the prices for cheese or linguine with truffle oil.
For certain asian spices and hard-to-find ingredients Granville Island’s Seven Seas is a haven for it all! Rangoli’s on South Granville and 11th is the best place to stock up the freezer with Indian quick dinners for wonderfully packaged and easy-to-heat- up meals- with a Mango Lassi to go.
For meats such as beef, lamb or sausages go to http://www.pasture-to-plategrassfedmeats.com. You could either find the meats at Trout Lake Farmers market or order online for grass fed meats which are raised in Williams Lake, BC.
Seafood. Now the VERY BEST seafood can be found at Village Fish and Oyster Market in West Vancouver (1482 marine drive). For handpicket fish, sauces and condiments, not to mention the very best humous in town made from Pan-O-Pan, They also carry Artisan Breads and have a good selection of cheeses.
Next door is Lada’s Vegie shop where I pick up organic lettuce and eggs.
In the same neighborhood is a great Iranian neighborhood market on Clyde avenue where you could buy pickles and cherry jam.
The list can go on! It was fun to share . Oh yes, chocolate (the only reason we eat dinner) for dessert must be found at Thomas Haas’ (Chocolatier Extraordinaire!) who’s just opened his shop on Harbour Side in North Vancouver…

    Andrea
